After DNA disbanded, Mori took to experimenting with drum machines which she modified to play samples. Mori herself had moved to New York City in 1977 where she joined the NoWave band DNA (along with Arto Lindsay & Robin Critchfield) as their drummer although she had never previously played drums. In 1995 he met & began collaborating with Japanese drummer & composer Ikue Mori. Japanese bass player Kato Hideki, founding member of Ground Zero & Bass Army, moved to New York City in 1992 where he began working with a number of musicians, including John Zorn, Marc Ribot, & Christian Marclay. So this month is dedicated to 21st Century sounds. Gimme somethin’ like nothin’ I heard yet. That feeling is what I listen for in new music. Some of those cherished relics ARE that great & some aren’t, but the thing they are all missing is that newness, that freshness, that “of the moment” when I would hear something for the very first time. But cloaking them in a shroud of nostalgia begs the question: is it really that great? I have albums from all times past that I cherish, sure.
